Rik Mellor has been with TPS for over 5 years. Initially helping out on the Fuerteventura Camp he has climbed up the ranks to coaching with TPS. Rik has a wealth of experience having competed in all distances of triathlon along with other multi-sport events and long distance cycling and swimming events, both for racing and charity.
Rik completed a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science at Northumbria University in 1999 and worked in Sports Development and Elite Athlete support in the North East before graduating with a second Bachelor in Sport Rehabilitation at the University of Salford in 2003. Rik has lived and worked around London for over 15 years and initially worked in private practice in the field of injury screening, rehabilitation and conditioning with private clients; mainly within running and triathlon.
In 2006, Rik starting teaching at St Mary’s University, Twickenham and has since been lecturing on Undergrad and Postgrad programmes in Sport Rehab, Strength & Conditioning and Sport Science.
Applied work continued alongside the lecturing role doing ad-hoc work in clinics at St Mary’s, assisting emerging athletes with conditioning for performance on the UK-based TASS programme and as a support team member to British Triathlon, travelling to two World Championships in Hamburg and Vancouver.
An MSc in Applied Biomechanics with Strathclyde Uni followed in 2011 and since 2014 Rik has been studying for a doctorate with Cambridge University whilst also developing further into triathlon coaching.
Rik is an Accredited Strength & Conditioning Coach with the UK Strength & Conditioning Association (UKSCA) and has also completed the BTF Level 2, however that pails into insignificance with all the above qualifications!
